Flight of the Chicxulub Secret Chiefs of Xochipili

As the second book in the series, “Flight of the Chicxulub: Secret Chiefs of Xochipili undergoes the germination of its first draft, Halloween approaches. I was recently asked what my favorite horror story was and who my favorite horror author was. The answer was a no-brainer:

Speculative fiction is set across galaxies, in other dimensions, and in all these worlds we see our own reflected. It wears a Latine face, it is full of immigrants, wars, and refugees. So often, readers identify this nation as “the good guys,” in a certain famous SF narrative Space Opera (take your pick, from Dune to Star Wars, they were written about Vietnam from the position of the rebels and the Empire was none other than this selfsame one we have today, only we’re a lot closer to the ability to blow up planets than we were back then.

Horror, the uncanny, the strange feeling of being asleep and warm then suddenly feeling a leg touch you under the covers, flesh cold and damp. You were sure you were alone. This is a sudden and secret inclusion into a secret society of misfits and outsiders. Believers in the weird, watchers of the gory, the splatterpunks, the elegant silkpunks, hopeful solarpunks, and now Latinopunk can take its place and Latino Futurism within a canon that’s spread across the worlds of endless imaginations and yet, for the first time a cyberpunk tale with Latine imagery is being read and the message in a bottle that was Flight of the Chicxulub has become a molotov cocktail in the hands of readers.

Happy Halloween Everyone and thank you again to Kathi Crawford, Writespace Houston, Tayyba Kanwal, and Randall Llewellyn Jones for including me in the wonderful “Meet the Authors” event and book signing this last weekend.

Grab onto your huevos cabrones. Next stop Guadalajara…and after that?

No stopping after that.
